Our design ethos as well as the quality of our materials and our commitment to excellent craftsmanship ensures that when you buy from SKIIM you are buying for life. As a brand we work to combat the throw away culture of fashion with a more thoughtful, sustainable approach to garment making, never compromising the final product.
We consider it our responsibility to take into account the social and ecological impact of our actions and to shape our design and manufacturing processes accordingly to change the direction of the fashion world for the greater good of the generations to come.
Materials and components are created using clean and chemical free processes; we work with tanneries that do not damage the natural environment through their dyeing processes. Typically, this means vegetable tanning, which results in an organic feel and higher durability. We consider every element; buttons are made using recycled paper, zips have been made using organic cotton tape, with other innovation in development. We use compostable and recyclable packaging.
The leather industry procures jobs for rural communities who often rely on the leather industry to make a living, allowing SKIIM to contribute to a hand-worker economy, to increase global workforce inclusivity, improve women’s wellbeing beyond factories and preserve important cultural traditions around the world.
Furthermore, SKIIM value less tangible, but equally important factors; diversity, inclusion and equal pay, energy efficiency, reducing water usage and promoting forest conservation. We invest in the communities we work with around the world and are proud to contribute to a number of UN Sustainable Development Goals including.
Goal 12, ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns; and Goal 16, promoting peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.
SKIIM is synonymous with style and durability; our fabrics and leathers are designed to last a lifetime, evolving and changing as they are worn. By designing with integrity and with the future in mind, SKIIM is committed to creating modern fashion that puts longevity and durability at the forefront, rather than creating short lived disposable fashion. SKIIM has an in-house repair service, and up-cycles deadstock into new garments and smaller goods.
SKIIM are committed to using organic, Fair Trade and sustainable fabrics only. We source only from suppliers recommended by the Sustainable Angle.
SKIIM’s leather is a by-product of the meat industry and is sourced from Leather Working Group accredited suppliers who adhere to globally recognised social and environmental standards.
Our animal welfare policy covers both our suppliers and subcontractors. The wool we use is verified by both Woolmark Certification and The Responsible Wool Standard.
SKIIM works towards supply chain transparency, fair trade and garment longevity. Our dedication to sustainable fashion is not just limited to production.
Each component that goes into making a SKIIM product is individually sourced by us from the finest tanneries and factories in the world. By utilising a high-quality, family-run factory based in Portugal with skilled craftsmen and women, we are able to be less excessive in wastage.
We detail all information around where our product is made, leather type, provenance and the tanning process on our care labels and e-store product pages.
The idea of minimum waste, maximum lifecycle is paramount - we give serious thought to the materials we use, the processes we adopt and the factories we employ.
