SKIIM In The City: New York with Violette

How to navigate New York City in SKIIM.

This month on SKIIM In The City we spoke to the gorgeous and chic make-up artist, Violette (@violette_fr)

Violette launched her career after studying at École du Louvre and being discovered by Carine Roitfeld at Vogue Paris. She has since worked alongside the most reputable thought leaders in the industry as both a makeup artist and art director. She served as the International Makeup Designer for Dior and the Global Beauty Director of Estée Lauder. Her most prized role is as a leader in redefining beauty rules for women around the world - a huge inspiration to us at SKIIM Paris! She has the confidence to try new things, have fun, and embrace imperfections through beauty, which we love.

Although French at heart, Violette lives in Brooklyn, New York with her husband Steven Pan who is a photographer with their daughter Ines. We spoke to her about her favourite places in the city, pastimes and why she loves New York, the perfect place to wear SKIIM. We are looking forward to the next time we will be able to visit again. For now we can dream…

What is your favourite place to get coffee in New York?

I don’t drink coffee but I love a good matcha latte from my neighbourhood shop called Stonefruit.

What are your favourite movies?

La belle et la bête de Cocteau, Leon de Luc Besson, Fight Club and Call me by your name.

What is your favourite bar/restaurant in New York?

La Merceire, because it has all my favourite things - great French food, beautiful home decor, and a beautiful flower shop. I specifically love places where you feel an experience. When going to La Merceire all my senses are triggered in the best way possible by food, the smell of the flowers, and the overall style.

What do you love most about New York City?

Well, New York is so very special to me. It’s the place where the love of my life is from, and where I had my daughter and it’s definitely been a very meaningful place. It’s the city of my heart in all aspects, but I do miss Paris very very much but I have truly found my happiness in New York. New York has this diversity that is truly amazing, that is different from Paris. New York is very inspiring to me because in Paris I found that we all kind of have similar aesthetic and we don't really get out of it, but i love new york because it taught me to get out of it. It's very inspiring to see everyone have their own identity and style and really proud to own it.

Have you got any other top tips and places to visit?

On a free afternoon I love to visit Dashwood Books to browse, or Sprout Home to buy flowers. There is nowhere better for home deco than ABC Carpet and for some me time, Hortus Nailworks is the best.
